About Moez Kassam
Investor Moez Kassam is co-founder of Anson Funds, a leading Canadian hedge fund.
Anson Funds currently manages about $1.4 billion in investments. It seeks to maximize returns by focusing on three investment strategies: classic shorts, value longs and opportunistic investments. Those strategies shape the firm’s flagship fund, the Anson Investments Master Fund, or AIMF.
Barron’s and Bloomberg have both chosen Anson Funds as a top-performing fund. Anson Funds has also appeared in the Top 10 Hedge Funds list from Barclay Managed Funds.
As Chief Investment Officer, Moez Kassam is relentless in researching companies, securities, other investments, and in discovering opportunities that may have been overlooked by other investors.
He networks with leaders in many fields and is in constant touch with a myriad of economists, academics, CEOs, managers and financial professionals. He is active and highly involved, which makes every day a high velocity and rewarding experience for everyone on his team.
As a student at Bayview Glen School, Moez Kassam developed an interest in finance after his class placed in the top three schools in the TD Stock Portfolio Challenge for Ontario. Kassam went on to attend the University of Western Ontario, where he graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2010, Moez Kassam earned his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance from the London Business School. And in 2025, he received a Doctorate in Law from Toronto Metropolitan University.
No discussion of Moez Kassam is complete without mention of his charitable work, which has made a truly significant difference in the lives of so many. For Kassam, business and philanthropy go hand-in-hand. He can’t imagine compartmentalizing success in business. Prosperity and good fortune bring with it a responsibility to give back, he believes — as well as rewarding opportunities to make a transformational difference in the lives of real people.
Moez Kassam and his wife founded the Moez & Marissa Kassam Equity Fund, which donates to many organizations that aid vulnerable people across Canada and abroad, but especially in Toronto. Since its inception, the Fund has supported organizations that impact these primary areas of focus: food and shelter, healthcare and research, youth development and education, immigration, and arts and culture.
The Fund realizes that food and shelter are other important sectors which need their support, and often donate to organizations such as Community Food Centres Canada, The Fred Victor Centre, The North York Harvest Food Bank and Homes First. With these donations, the Fund helps people get closer to being able to access warm food and a place to stay, which they may not have had the opportunity to find otherwise.
The Fund’s recent $2.5 million donation to the Sinai Health Foundation is another prime example of a life-saving healthcare initiative. The gift will allow Sinai to bring its world-leading women’s and infants program to communities across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka through the launch of a new fellowship program.
Moez and Marissa Kassam Fellows will be selected for an opportunity to learn from experts in the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women's and Infants’ Health at Sinai Health. The goal is to have these trainees take their expertise back to their home countries to strengthen neonatal services in their communities.
Similarly, the Fund actively supports the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, SickKids VS Limits Campaign, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS research, and Ronald McDonald House Charities. In 2021, the Fund donated $1 million to the Michael Garron Hospital in 2021. This donation helps people in one of the few priority areas in Toronto, and will go towards helping people needing these services that live in poverty and have newly immigrated to Canada.
Moez Kassam and his wife are deeply involved in uplifting Canada’s immigrant and marginalized communities – clearing a pathway to success in business and society. Their support of organizations like the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and Windmill Microlending helps these communities thrive and receive the assistance that they deserve. Needless to say, the Fund is passionate in its commitment to help each individual and family achieve a happy, prosperous life in Canada.
